How to Write a Melody (Music Theory/Composition). In this video I tell you what you need to know to write a basic and effective melody using 4 basic guidelines and knowledge of a scale, key, and tonic. This is part of my Music Theory series.
Today's thumbnail feature Carl Phillip Emanuel (CPE) Bach, a famed composer of the Galant and Classical styles known for his beautiful and elegant melodies. He was also the son of Johann Sebastian (JS) Bach, a master of the high baroque style. History shows an odd reversal with this son-father pair, as JS Bach was not particularly well known or highly regarded in his lifetime, but his son enjoyed great success. In modern times, the roles have reversed and it JS that is well known and deeply studied while CPE is frequently overlooked.
